The Scottish Government’s refreshed Life Sciences Strategy is more than a national growth plan—it’s a signal of deep alignment with what we at DRUiD are building in the Highlands and Islands.
The new strategy sets out an ambitious goal to grow Scotland’s life sciences sector to £25 billion by 2035, while strengthening the country’s global leadership in research, innovation, and manufacturing. It calls for deeper integration between industry, academia, and the NHS—a model that reflects exactly how DRUiD operates.
Based in the Highlands, DRUiD is developing next-generation diagnostic technologies that address global challenges like antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and animal health, while creating high-value jobs and R&D capacity in rural regions.
We are proud to be part of the expanding life sciences ecosystem that:
Delivers £10.5 billion in turnover—surpassing original growth targets
Supports over 46,000 skilled jobs across medtech, biotech, and digital health
Powers over 770 organisations, from global players to agile startups like DRUiD
This strategy recognises the need to scale innovation beyond the central belt, leveraging the full potential of regional clusters like ours in the Highlands. With strong academic links (e.g. UHI), NHS collaboration, and support from innovation partners like iDE8 and Innovate UK, we’re living proof that world-class life sciences companies can thrive far beyond urban centres.
As the national strategy accelerates, DRUiD will continue to contribute from the ground up—creating future-facing diagnostics, delivering rural impact, and helping ensure Scotland’s growth is inclusive, sustainable, and globally relevant.
