DRUiD Explores Mastitis Innovation with SRUC and Dairy Nexus
DRUiD recently visited SRUC Barony Campus and the Dairy Nexus to explore collaborative research opportunities around dairy cow health—specifically mastitis, one of the most costly and persistent challenges in livestock farming.
Hosted by Dr Mike Christian and the SRUC team, we shared insights into our biosensor platform and explored how rapid diagnostics can support smarter, more sustainable mastitis management on farms.
Mastitis affects millions of cows globally each year, leading to reduced milk yield, early culling, significant economic loss, and widespread antibiotic use. It's a disease with direct links to animal welfare, food production, and antimicrobial resistance—making it a perfect example of why DRUiD is committed to a One Health approach.
By developing a fast, on-farm diagnostic, we aim to give farmers and vets a powerful new tool for early detection and targeted treatment—reducing unnecessary antibiotic use, improving herd wellbeing, and protecting environmental health.
Working with SRUC—Scotland’s leading agricultural research institution—helps ensure our technology is grounded in the realities of modern farming while advancing toward a more resilient and sustainable dairy sector.
This is where biosensor innovation meets real-world impact—and we’re just getting started.
